about

London-based electronic duo Small Hours is the refreshing new collaboration between Alex Mills and Alex Patten. With Mills having worked with Basement Jaxx and Tricky and Patten’s background as a multi-instrumentalist and singer for brooding project Fine Print & Michael Kiwanuka, their musical histories are varied and versatile.
Their debut single ’Shoe Box’, out 26th March 2018, is a softly glowing and moody left field pop track that shines a light on their combined accomplishments. The single’s slick, pared down production is complemented by Mills' honeyed vocals – the song details the vulnerability that comes with exposing your heart to a lover, preferring to retreat to a safe place when at the mercy of another. The band name, inspired by singer song-writer John Martyn and the post-night out haze of an after party, aligns with their deeply rhythmic, languorous sound.
This release follows on from a successful tour supporting Elder Island and was written alongside Marc Pell of the renowned Micachu & The Shapes (now known as Good Sad Happy Bad).
‘Shoe Box’ is a distinctively self-assured debut paving the way for what is sure to be a colossal year for the talented duo.
